Chain of Ghouls

I named this after “Chain of Fools”. I made this out of Halloween scraps at about the same time I was making the Halloween BOM. I was on a real Irish chains kick. They are fun scrap projects. I partially strip pieced this but not completely due to wanting variety and needing to accommodate the random sizing of scraps. I think this is one of the quilts I might have designed by weight–if you are fun like me, try pulling fabric scraps, weighing them, and then allocating what percent of the quilt can be what color. It is a little easier if you determine what your block size will be and whether you will have two different types of blocks. You can also sort of (it’s a crapshoot) reverse engineer patterns by converting (1 yard is about 3 1/2 yards, but I would go with 3 to accommodate the random sizes) how many yards of each fabric to how many pounds of scraps you could use. Or not. Now that I’m typing this out I’m really not sure it saves time. It’s super fun though.

Pattern: This is an Irish Chain. I can’t remember what kind. Triple?

Fabric: Scraps!

Quilting: I machine quilted this with an extended zig-zag in a plaid of colors. Pro-Tip: If your seams don’t always line up, the extended zig-zag is a fun option because it’s going in a line, but it’s not as glaringly apparent that you are out of whack as say a classic straight stitch in the ditch. I also think it washes up nicely.

Finished size is 52″x79″.
