This was the first quilt I ever started in my adult life. I was inspired by this quilt that was on display in the fabric store by my house (it turned out to be from a Kaffe Fassett book) but I wanted to make it bigger. The original quilt was 2″ finished squares, and these are 2.5″ finished, and also more rows, I think, and also there are more in general. Long story short, I did the math weird and this quilt is HUGE. It also took me about five years to finish. If the pandemic hadn’t turned up and I didn’t go on a real finishing kick it still might not be done.
I am remembering now that I was originally making a weird patchwork quilt out of some old sheet samples, but it turned out ugly, so I took it all apart and used a bunch of those squares in this, but then bought a whole bunch of other stuff.
Pattern: This is a trip around the world quilt.
Fabric: Scraps! Plus I bought a lot of fat quarters so I don’t want to say it is entirely a scrap quilt. A lot of it did come from the scrap bin. I bought this fabric for the backing thinking that somehow that 3.5 yards would cover it. Ha.
Quilting: I quilted this with an extended zig-zag with a walking foot on my DOMESTIC MACHINE which at the time was a Babylock Tempo. My back did not feel fantastic after that.
Finished size is 95″ x 125″ which is too long yet also too narrow for a king-sized bed. Live and Learn.
