Untitled because I realized the original title was cultural appropriation

I made this quilt as a variation on the Scrap Vomit quilts that were a hot item a while ago. Also, is this from a book? I am not sure who the original author of that pattern is and I would like to link to them. I wanted to have a thick Irish chain and I wanted to do something with the diamonds, so I based it on what I thought was a craft project from elementary school, but when I decided to put my sociology degree to good use and google it I learned that the craft project was based on an indigenous culture’s artifacts and I felt weird about that given that I don’t belong to this culture, know a ton about it, and this design does not actually relate to them beyond my faint memory of something I made in the third grade.

That being said, I don’t want to just give it a new name and skip over this part because I don’t think people see enough examples of thought processes around equity and inclusivity. It’s not like people are either perfect at JEDI (justice, equity, diversity and inclusion) work or EVIL, everyone learns and changes and sometimes you gotta call yourself in.

Pattern: I figured out the pattern from looking at pictures from the internet, but I was inspired by Scrap Vomit quilts and I would like to cite the original creator of that pattern.

Fabric: SCRAPS!

Quilting: I think this is machine quilted using a serpentine stitch.

Finished size is 66″x92″.
